#SewAndTell Repair week is timely - this morning I heard an awful rip when I put on my coat, the armpit seam popped! The fabric was undamaged so it was just a matter of ladder stitching the seam shut again. I used this vintage synthetic silk doubled for extra strength.

Is it visible mending or invisible mending if the mend is on an inside pocket?

A tiny little mend using swiss darning.

This repair technique can be creative or invisible, and I’m excited to teach it soon in an online workshop:

A photograph of a darned area of a blanket. The blanket is wool and woven with green, pink, yellow and cream yarn. The mended area is worked with matching embroidery floss so it is barely visible.

This mend on my #DarningSampler blanket had me questioning my life choices! A few days ago there was a big hole and a threadbare area here. People often comment on my patience, but I reached my limit with this.

Day 3 of #invisiblemending. I'm only working on it in spare time so I'm afraid I made mistakes. It's a job that requires deep concentration. But closing the hasm is only the first part of my project.

What’s more luxurious than hand-knit, made-to-measure socks?

Hand-mended socks 😊

Work in (very slow) progress, mending with Swiss darning / duplicate stitch.
I made these 2 years ago and kept some of the yarn for mending (the mended gauge is looser so looks bigger).

A close photograph of an old faded navy blue sweater with a large run (hole where the knitting has unraveled) in it. A loop is held in place with a safety pin at the top and a loop at the bottom of the run is facing outward ready to be crocheted back into the fabric invisibly.

A photo of the same sweater area, but now it is repaired. There is a slight gap along one column of knit stitches, but it should even out after washing and reshaping. Thread used to mimic the sweater yarn was three strands of desaturated navy embroidery floss.
