Excited to share that our first paper on the Walvis Ridge (South Atlantic Ocean) has now been officially published! The samples are from #IODP Expedition 391, collected by the D/V JOIDES Resolution.

He presented his work and research based on several new cores and samples drilled along the South Atlantic Transect during an Integrated Ocean Drilling Program #IODP campaign to shed light on seafloor alteration from the oceanic ridge to the coasts. 🌊

Our latest paper was published in PNAS. This presents the geochemical evidence for the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet during the mid-Pliocene, based on results from IODP Exp 379 (2019).

The core repository at Bremen has 100s of kms of IODP material Here we sample from dozens of metres below the seafloor, to get samples that were alive millions of years ago.
Once taken, the samples are meticulously labelled so everyone knows we've got them, and we know where they came from. This trip had us taking 800 tiny bags home with us, or 1 ~36kg suitcase. Phew!
With lab member Louisa and ex-lab member (🥲) Rachel, we went to @marumunibremen.bsky.social to samples #IODP @ecord.bsky.social cores. Despite being drilled ~30 years ago, the mud we were looking at was once surface creatures, in the Miocene, 6 million years ago! Thanks Rachel for coming to help!

I am so excited to know about the observatory results from #IODP #Exp405. We had to wait almost 1 year!
Very excited to attend the #IODP Expedition 399 postcuise meeting and see all of the exciting science on mantle processes, fluid-rock interaction and ultramafic-hosted life!
Reasonably sure #IODP isn't here, but FINALLY the FOCUS report is out (like a year+ after we had all those meetings???)
