Irene Sharaff (1910-1993) was a costume designer for stage and screen. She won five Academy Awards and a Tony Award. Sharaff is universally recognized as one of the greatest costume designers of all time. "Funny Girl" is loosely based on the life and career of comedienne Fanny Brice and her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein. Streisand won an Oscar for her performance.
