Large quilt held aloft in a living room. The quilt is decorated with on-point diamond-shaped English paper pieced blocks in the Lucy Boston pattern, all made from honeycomb shapes. Interspersed within the thirty blocks, all made from scrap fabric, are two-inch hexagons in a variety of prints. The backing fabric are three different blues forming the top third, with a block of pink as the remainder. The blocks are appliqued onto the those fabrics, bordered by strips of prints in a variety of colours.

I finished my 5th Kawandi-style quilt recently. It is lap-sized and backed with a vintage wool tartan. The top is mostly quilting cottons and a few wool patches. It is all raw edges and there is no batting. It was easy to stitch and it's lightweight yet cozy.

Progress on my raw-edge-tartan-backed Kawandi. The top is mostly quilting cottons and a few wool scraps. No batting so it will be thin yet warm. As I close in on the center the quilting/piecing goes faster and faster.

My next project is feeling like I’ll do Kawandi inside of the back panel of a denim jacket that I cut the sleeves off of and made into a vest.

This was my first #kawandi piece just before I added this last piece. I decided I wanted to add some embroidery in the midst of all of the printed fabric, so I embroidered a bee, and placed it on a solid piece of fabric to frame it.

I finished an oversized Kawandi mug rug today. Next piece will be much more random than this one. Decent needles really helped save my hands/fingers. Kawandi has become a fun distraction from all the 💩 going on today.

Finished this Kawandi style quilted mat last evening. This piece is 13”x19” and has a worn out kitchen towel as the batting. The first few in the series were coaster sized and each consecutive piece a bit larger.

Hourglass blocks and a house block edge a quilt perimeter with yellow, red and blue scraps pinned in place above them.
A purple scrap now frames a yellow scrap, placed on a blue scrap previously stitched to the quilt batting, upon which vibrant fabrics are hand sewn. Other prints are pinned to the batting.
I treat Kawandi stitching like hand-quilting and once in the groove I get a lot accomplished. My goodness I love this process! 🪡💗🧵
Other photos are of a dark blue scrap I tacked on to keep the batting from shifting. I will frame the top when I get that far. ☺️
