This weekend we had the second of our Applicant Visit Days at #KeeleUniversity!

With a large number of our team there, our #ForensicScience applicants were able to experience #CSI in our specialist simulation centre, and #Fingerprinting and #Anthropology in the lab. ✋🚨

From digital vans to burning tankers!

Our #ForensicScience student on our Crime Scene to Court modules had their practical assessments in the outer reaches of the #KeeleUniversity campus, where they are involved with the #FireInvestigation and #CrimeSceneInvestigation of a fire scene.

Highlights included over a dozen #KeeleUniversity attendees, three posters from undergraduate researchers (also their first conference ever!), three posters from our PhD students, and a talk from our recently viva'd George!

With the dawn on #engineering at #KeeleUniversity we're also seen interest in #biomechanics. One example being Hector Allen's project which is using a novel combination of #microCT density analysis and #3Dscanning to reconstruct joints of the deceased from their #SkeletalRemains. Amazing stuff!

In the pictured lab our #forensics students worked to extract chemicals from blood and urine samples, and in the case of the urine do an acid hydrolysis to remove any metabolic conjugates that may have been present so the drug was all in the same form to be compared and analysed.

Last week the #KeeleUniversity #ForensicScience team was out in force for #InternationalWomenandGirlsInScience, with talks and stalls across events at #KeeleInTown in Newcastle, and Home Farm on campus.

This event is always a great opportunity to showcase our work and inspire the next generation!

In this image three droplets of artificial blood have landed on a surface at 70 degrees. The resulting stain is therefore long and thin and flowing in the direction of the slope. The longer and thinner the stain the steeper the slop that the droplet lands on.

Cas' project is utilising industry grade biodegradable moulds to mimic human body density, and 3D printed carnivore skulls to create predatory marks. The aim of the project to create a environmentally friendly and sustainable method for human remains predation studies.

Following on from this our postgraduates undertake a #forensic fire scene excavation, recovering and analysing exhibits, thus producing and evidential statement in prep to present their evidence as an expert in court.

On our Crime Scene to Court module our students will later apply these skills in both our Crime Scene House and Forensic Simulation Centre on campus in mock real life scenarios, and even in simulated scene assessments.
