This is a Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus). I was confused at first that it might be the Great Black-backed (Larus marinus) however the one in my photograph has yellow legs which is a discerning feature (the legs in the Greater are more of a light pink). This species of gull (the Lesser) is slightly smaller than a Herring Gull. It also has longer and thinner wings. The habitat is coastal, but it can also occur on moors and in towns. It has a varied diet range, including other birds, small mammals, fish, invertebrates etc. It is also a carrion eater. It is classed as Least Concern with an increasing population trend on the IUCN Red List. This species has an extremely large range within Eurasia, with some populations wintering in Southeast Asia and Africa. It can also be found on the Atlantic coast of North America.

The alt. BirdOfTheDay theme is #FeedingFrenzy and I have an archive #Lesser #Black-backed #gull. It has caught some kind of crustacean (or stolen from a plate). I was not near a restaurant though. #bird #birds #wildlife #photography Please see ALT text for more info. #flight
