I am not suggesting any go up against ICE solo. But I think if there were enough arm people at protests and/or patrolling neighborhoods, then ICE would think long and hard about hassling anyone. We see ICE trying to look tough in nice neighborhoods in cities in blue states. Why aren’t they in red states? Probably because more people have guns (and higher capacity guns) in red states. Do you really think Minnesota has more illegal immigrants than Texas or Florida? ICE agents might be willing to kill for a paycheck. One of the modern milestones of gun control is California’s Mulford Act, signed in 1967 by Ronald Reagan in reaction to the Black Panthers bringing guns to the California State Capitol [Note 1]. If you live in a blue state, tell your state senator, representative and governor to support gun rights. Tell them you also support reproductive rights, LGBT rights, doing something about climate change and that BLM. You can be a liberal and own guns. Gay and brown people are more afraid for their safety now than they were when Biden is in office. They have lost some federal protections. Since I decided to buy a gun, my thoughts on guns have changed. But I am not sure I am against all gun control. Should felons be able to buy guns? (I think felons should not be president.) Should anyone convicted of domestic violence or any violent crime be able to get guns? If there are going to be gun restrictions, then they should apply to everyone. There should not be carve-outs for law enforcement or bodyguards for the wealthy. A police chief in Iowa was arrested for buying guns with municipal funds, reselling them and pocketing the difference (see here and here). Before he was sentenced, he said that “if I’m guilty of this, every cop in the nation’s going to jail.” Fine with me. I am thinking about starting PAC for pro gun Dems. I have mentioned it to a few people online and offline, and gotten favorable reception. I was recently laid off from my job, and I got a severance package. The forms for the severance recommended I contact a lawyer. They were about $400/hour. I assume rates for lawyers who set up PACs would be the same. I have found a few links to consulting firms that help run PACs.
