Green heron accidentally catches a branch.
For as long as I've been going to this particular local park, this is my first time seeing a green heron. And the funny thing is, it's my co-worker who spotted it (I got her into birding recently).

The image features a small bird perched on a thin reed, with a lovely blurred green background. The bird has striking black, white, and brown streaked feathers, creating an elegant contrast. It appears to be gazing to the right, beak slightly open, almost as if caught mid-song!
Just walked round my local estate. It has a few streams and ponds with well developed reed beds all within a suburban setting. So it was no surprise to find a few very vocal Reed Buntings making their presence known

I haven't seen many migratory birds since the neighbors moved in about two years ago. They have lots of dogs and kids :+)
On my walk to the (wonderful!) Joy Market on 8th ave in #NewWest, I interrupted a Flicker, drumming away on a metal fence. They do that to attract mates, apparently. I got too close and she flew away. That's right. I *cloaca* blocked her. #birds #LocalBirds #Wildlife
