In 1863, Cracker Castle was built for Jonathan Pierce in St. Louis, MO. Unfortunately, it was damaged beyond repair during the Great St. Louis Cyclone of 1896 when a tornado dredged a mile-wide path through the heart of the city.

An intricate Victorian era entrance hall divided by an arcade where it meets the stair hall. Every surface is heavily ornamented with wood relief.
The only way inside the Palmer Mansion was through giant front doors that had no external door handles. Staff had to swing open the doors from the inside and hoist them shut. Upon entering, this is what you would have seen.
