Today, we honour the ocean’s bounty with a stunning work from our Japanese Kimono Collection.

This Furisode (Kimono for a Young Woman), dating from 1912–1926, captures the rhythm of the sea with its swirling water motif.

20th July was chosen for 'Marine Memorial Day' as this is when the emperor finished his trip, arriving in Yokohama.

Only in 1995 did the celebration become a national holiday, and in 1996 it was renamed 'Marine Day'.
In 2003 the holiday was moved to the 3rd Monday in July.

Nao-san enjoys an afternoon cruise on the 'Concerto', which serves lunch and light entertainment while traveling up and down the coast from Kobe Harborland.
