At the event space on the 8th floor of the Hanshin Umeda Main Store. A photo spot featuring a vivid red wall and floor, with three giant strawberries installed—two on the floor and one on the wall. Heart-shaped mirrors are also attached to the wall. This display is part of the annual Valentine’s event held every year since 2019, running this year from 14 January to 14 February. In recent years, photo spots decorated with giant strawberries have become especially popular. In addition to the 8th floor, the 1st floor and the basement level 1 also offer a wide variety of strawberry sweets during this period.

At Anamori Inari Shrine. A large 'Ema' (a pentagonal wooden votive plaque with a painted image, offered at shrines as a wish or in thanks for a wish being fulfilled). In the centre, the racehorse "Inari One", which has a close connection to Anamori Inari Shrine, is powerfully depicted in reference to the Year of the Horse in the zodiac. At the top left is the tail of a dragon, last year’s zodiac sign, and at the bottom left, a white fox washing its paws at a 'Hanachōzu' (a water basin decorated with floating flowers), alongside rice ears. At the top right are the Senbon Torii gates and Mount Inari, while at the bottom right, a white fox is feeding the racehorse "Do Deuce". Designed by MATSUO Kaori.

In front of the boar statue on the left side of the Hondō (Main Hall) at Zenkyoan. The temple was founded in 1333 and is also known as the “Inoshishi Dera (Boar Temple)” and “Marishiten-san.” A bronze boar stands here, and at its feet sits an omikuji holder shaped like a little boar piglet. The temple is dedicated to the sacred hidden statue of Marici, the Buddhist deity of light and mirage. Within the temple grounds, there are many statues and carvings of wild boars, originating from the fact that the statue of Marici is depicted riding a boar.

At Kushikatsu Daruma Shinsaibashi branch. This drink is called “Osaka-born bottled Ramune.” The name Ramune comes from a Japanese adaptation of the English word “lemonade.” Nowadays, it generally refers to a type of lemonade (or soda) that is bottled in a unique “Codd-neck” glass bottle sealed with a marble.

At the OSARAGI Jiro Memorial Museum, an Egyptian statue of Bastet is displayed on the exterior wall. OSARAGI Jiro was a versatile author who wrote popular fiction, historical novels, contemporary stories, non-fiction, new kabuki plays, and children's tales. His notable works include The Kurama Tengu Series and The Forty-seven Rōnin. Although he had a wife, he was famously devoted to cats, calling them his “lifelong companions.” He affectionately referred to the Bastet statue on the wall as the “lion cat.” It is said that he cared for no fewer than 500 cats, including strays. Inside the museum, cat ornaments can be found everywhere, adding charm to its exhibits.

At the Tamagawa riverbed. At this time, the total lunar eclipse was visible across many parts of Japan. The moon, glowing red, floats in the night sky. This phenomenon was observed for the first time in about three years since 8 November 2022, and the next total lunar eclipse is expected on 3 March 2026.

Through the window stands the “Shūmai Uri (Shūmai Seller)” mannequin with a hat. On the window ledge sits a plush “Hyō-chan” wearing a yellow hat. Hyō-chan, a soy sauce dispenser character by YOKOYAMA Ryūichi, celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025. Currently, there are 98 varieties of the 70th Anniversary Hyō-chan (49 large and 49 small, in 7 colours × 7 facial expressions) as well as 14 golden 70th Anniversary Hyō-chan (7 large and 7 small).

Near the sea of Ishigaki Island, Okinawa. Today is Okinawa Memorial Day in Japan. The Battle of Okinawa began on 1 April with a US landing and ended on 23 June. More than 200,000 lives were lost—1 in 4 Okinawans. It’s a public holiday in Okinawa to remember those who died and to pray for peace. Looking at the turquoise sea and sky, I hope from my heart that no more blood or tears are shed, no matter what country we live in.
