I have a love/hate relationship with oil pastel. It can vary from subtle to garish and it's difficult to work over an oily surface. The background to this was lightly indicated with watercolour and then oil pastel used when dry and not overworked. The medlars are from the garden.

Small but colourful batch of homemade jelly this year. I'm surprised how similar in colour the two types are - in previous years my medlar jelly has been a deeper shade of red. Still pretty, though. ❤️🧡

'Nottingham' medlars, growing on a medlar tree
'Nottingham' #medlars sizing-up nicely in the summer sunshine. These odd-looking fruits won't be ready for picking until they've softened and bletted, turning a darker brown in the process, which usually happens under the influence of the first frost or two.
The medlars are still rock hard and nowhere near ready. Although some of the leaves are yellowing. No frosts yet to make them start to ripen and fall from the tree. Will add the pulp later to apple cider that is currently fermenting. #cider #medlars #wairarapa #Aotearoa #NZ

Last crop for the year. These are #Medlars. They need to be bletted (I.e. beginning to rot) before they are useful/edible. This year I was late, so they naturally blett on the tree, especially after a frost.
The crop is currently being boiled to heck, so tomorrow I can make a Medlar Jelly.
