Well, this is an idea...a "mega strike" -- a little more accomplishable than a general strike. Sounds like a good way to up the ante in the US, too.

Hi from Canada; did you say #megastrike ?
My #nzpol cartoon for The Listener #megastrike www.nzherald.co.nz/the-listener...
New Zealand’s #megastrike
Read our co-founder @redhen90.bsky.social discussing this week’s strike of public-sector workers in New Zealand, only in this weekend’s @mstaronline.bsky.social:

What if there was a requirement for parliament to receive an independent labour market impact assessment across Australia and New Zealand assessing the impact on recruitment, retention before real terms reductions in public service wages were proposed?

In today’s NZ Herald #megastrike
Nurse in pay bargaining relayed this to me: “seems like they don’t care about us, but expect us to give full care to the patients, to uphold their brand equity…” private business taking advantage of caring nurses. #nzpol #megastrike
"I support the mega strike' 23/10/25 written on a green background above a photo of an upheld fist. Pink flowers and lightening strikes in the background.
"I support striking health workers; Stand together for Health" is written over a green photo. The PSA logo is on it as well.
Black background with the words "I back the teachers" and the NZEI Te Riu Roa logo, and the kimi haeata, back our future logo.
#Oct23strike #megastrike Just adding my voice in support of all those on strike today. We can have a functioning health system, and pay our public service workers decent wages - our govt is choosing not too. I support us making different choices and backing our people and communities.
Person in inflatable unicorn costume at the March today.
Even the unicorns were striking today.

My takeaway from today? I spoke to a nurse who said last few shifts were short staffed.
Someone else I spoke to said teacher aides get paid from same budget used to buy toilet paper.
Something is wrong. Really wrong.
Teacher aides & support staff got alot of love today.

A photo of former President of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions from 2007 to 2015, and basically all-round legend, Helen Kelly. Next to her is one of her many legendary quotes... "I really think there's theis narrative running through NZ, that you're lucky to have a job, don't bite the hand that feeds you, be grateful - the job creator is the charity giver and you're the charity taker, beneficiary vs benefactor, rather than this mutual relationship - a lot of employers will say to you: "Oh, lucky to have a job, they can quit if they don't like it", or whatever, you know, this sort of derogatory understanding of the economic situation... WE DON'T GIVE UP, WE PUSH BACK" RIP Helen Kelly 1964-2016 https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/77182217/obituary-union-leader-helen-kelly

MAKE IT LOUD, AOTEAROA!
Let them know where we stand, it's what Aunty Helen would do if she were here on the #MegaStrike
"The Union forever defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters from many far off lands
There is power in a Union"
✊
Union leader addressing a general strike in Cathedral Square c1970. Banners visible are the names of the unions present with some additional ones insulting the then Minister of Education.
Sending great good wishes to those on the mega strike today. It's a grand tradition.
#MegaStrike #NZPol #Workers
Sending solidarity to the striking healthcare workers, teachers, and emergency workers striking today across Aotearoa New Zealand
Striking workers always win. I know you will win too. Keep up the pressure. Keep up the faith. They can’t hold out for long
#nzpol #strike #megastrike
Shout-out to all the whānau who are striking in Aotearoa today. With you in spirit. #MegaStrike
So, what happens next?
More strikes?
Longer strikes?
Complete job walk offs?
Riot?
If they were dragging the unions in the media for not "negotiating" yesterday while ignoring the fact they had nothing to offer, I doubt they're gonna offer what is needed tomorrow...

NZEI template strike posters on a table at a cafe, with handwritten slogans filled in: "We're on strike 23 October... Decent pay = not achieved" "I'm striking because... Erica's maths is not mathing". Back our future
Teacher hubby gearing up with NZEI colleagues for the #megastrike. I think the weather will hold for midday in Aotea Square.
