It was dry at least, patches of snow lying on a distant Ben Vrackie. A very fat pheasant was parading up and down, trying to intimidate the opposition further down the path.

Blue, long tailed great and colitis picked up by Merlin App, but no gold crest who managed to show up all winter, but has gone quiet..

Still astonishing to me that these unsung migrations from Sub-Saharan Africa are embodied by these ting birds picked up by Merlin App…chiffchaff and willow warbler.(not sure if I’ve ever seen them myself though!) A passerby who has climbed the Ben picked up a stone chat and got a picture too!

Yesterday there was some warmth in the sun, at least for a while around Aviemore way, but today there was a chill to the wind. By the time I got to the Ben path pm the rain was, thankfully, off. Would like to think I have a tan but in reality, weatherbeater. No gold crest fot 2 weeks..

Absolutely incredible, a Northern Mockingbird has been practicing their calls all night in my backyard. #MerlinBirdID picked up these #birds over 30 min, however only one vocalist was responsible. It was also going through a variety of alarm sounds. Solid 2am birding experience. 🪶🎶

A record of the birds Merlin app picked up, although I swear it missed the owl on the way down at dusk,(and still raining.) The chiffchaff is hanging on in there after its long journey back,(to ice and rain..)

The usual suspects the App identified, and a pheasant joining the throng.

I thought to have a go at fooling the Merlin Bird ID app with my "impression" of a Eurasian Collared Dove down at the allotment this late afternoon 😁 Did I manage to? The birds in good voice inspite of the rain…Siskin, coaltit, wood pigeon robin and first for a while, blackcap. No gold crest I am sorry to say- my best hope is that is will be back now the cold snap is past.

Raven, thrush, long tailed tit, Sunoco and goldfinch. The birds are in good voice, although the app Pickens up the raven while I missed its croaky call.

Had no idea of the biodiversity in my neighborhood

Picked up the chirps & sounds of a Monk Parakeet today in Corpus Christi, TX, according to the Merlin Bird ID app. I wasn’t expecting to come across this majestic species in this geographic area…definitely not complaining, just surprised.

Holiday Finds 😎

The beautiful place we stayed was quite isolated, in the nicest way. No cars or people distractions. Because of this it was teaming birdsong. Many of the usual crowd, but I did find some new additions.

I really do get a ridiculous amount of enjoyment from this app.
