添附動画を聴くと分かるのですが、ミルト・ジャクソン演奏するヴィブラフォンの伴奏に回っているときのジョン・ルイスのピアノは単なるバッキングではない。直後に来るジョン・ルイス自身のピアノソロと比べると、あまり差が感じられません。これは、ソロに近い姿勢で伴奏を行っているということでしょう。そして、それが非常に魅力的な伴奏になっているのです。

In Japan, today (January, 22) is said "day of Jazz" from the association of "'JAnuary 22'→'JA ZZ'".
The quoted music is certainly a jazz, but it has authentic fugal structure comparable to the works by J.S.Bach. It's one of my favorite music.

Record Rescue - From Offshore Sounds' fun 1st Anniversary dollar-bin-blowout on Saturday, this 1962 Milt Jackson reissue of his 1955 LP -- Basically the 2nd MJQ sans Lewis with Horace Silver instead -- was dirty & well loved. But with some good washings its playing decently with the mono cartridge (clicks 'n pops for sure but not distorted or skipping). Cover cleaned up nicely. A good starter copy...
