More and more lightweight, highly functional mobility aids are being made. Is a small person using a power attachment really more dangerous to pedestrians than a big person running?

All Disabled people should be legally able to speed up to "running" or "cycling"-equivalent speeds to get out of danger, whatever mobility devices we're using, at all times of day and night, and wherever we are travelling.

And this impact is far-reaching as other Disabled people, who don't have cycles, have been harmed by bans as we've not been allowed to take, or use, our mobility aids where we need them.

We think class 3 aids should be treated in law as assisted pedestrians when in pedestrian spaces, and as comparable to cycles when used in cycling spaces and at cycling speeds.

Win! @davethompsonvic.bsky.social 's motion about welcoming wheelchairs and mobility scooters on bike & roll routes passes unanimously! 🧵 cheknews.ca/victoria-cou... #yyj #bcpoli #mobilityjustice

– and, ironically, would probably make our streets less safe by pushing Disabled people to keep driving essential trips even when they don’t feel able to do so safely any more.

Even if attaching a pushchair to the front of a wheelchair may not presently be illegal, the law needs to make clear that we have the right to transport children and move in equivalent ways to all other pedestrians.

We need the law to be changed!

Great segment on @davethompsonvic.bsky.social 's motion to welcome wheelchairs and (3&4 wheel) mobility scooter on bike and roll routes province wide. Vote Thurs. (Featuring my video & photos - other media also welcome to use). #yyj #mobilityjustice #bcpoli

We’re campaigning for changes to the law so Disabled parents and carers who need to transport their babies and children using pedestrian and cycling-equivalent options can buy good quality products to enable this, and so that we definitely aren’t breaking the law when we do.

We think Disabled people should have the same rights to pedestrian, cycling and cycling-equivalent mobility as non-disabled people.

Bikes and e-bikes are not hobbies or luxuries. For many of us they are mobility aids. They are how we get to work, appointments, school, groceries. They are independence.

Cyclists are already allowed to use bus lanes- including Disabled people using all kinds of cycles, from sports recumbents to wheelchairs with handcycle attachments, upright trikes to tandems and wheelchair transporter cycles.
