The clouds are called #cirrus, they are very high altitude and made of ice crystals. Sometimes they refract and focus sunlight just right, to create a 2nd bright spot in the #sky..

The sun peeps through a dark pine on the right, and a smaller paler dot of brightness is in the sky to it's left - a Mock Sun. The light is being refracted and focused by tiny little ice crystals in the high wispy clouds that feather the sky. Below, on the driveway, a cat watches the show.

I took this picture a couple weeks ago right after an #icestorm I got caught in this middle of.

The #sunset light bounces off the ice crystals in the atmosphere.

They're called #sundogs, also known as #mocksun or #parhelia

A sundog or mock sun - on some wispy cirrus clouds in a deep blue summer sky. A treeline of conifers, and the roof of a house in the bottom of the photo. A bar of light, and part of a halo around the false sun are visible where there are enough clouds to cause the refraction effect.
