With card design lowering prices of 00s staples and Shock Lands getting more reprints, it is a fairly affordable chance to play a Standard format that is enjoyable far past its ...time. RAV-TSP-10E has a what still appears to be diverse, deep metagame. retrotcgs.com/2025/09/13/r... #mtgweird
Glad not all "i learned commander" stories are tragic! #oldpersonyellsatcommander

Rarely log into MTGO to play cubes (but a sick, creative design likely gets me playing once with my dwindling play points). Was heavily enfranchised ~10 years ago.
Not enough high-profile #mtgweird mindset to expose masses to other cube experiences... & not sure how Daybreak runs Cube events now.

Invasion Block Constructed! Updates to 4 classic lists are photographed and looking gorgeous ๐ค RUG Tempo, Dark Domain, Star-Spangled Control, Machine Head
Midnight Charm, Piracy Charm, Dark Confidant, Magus of the Bazaar Magic: The Gathering cards.
I wonder how many times Midnight Charm or Piracy Charm killed Very Important Creatures in standard... 18 or so years ago. ๐ค #mtgweird #mtgstandard #mtgretro
(I know Funeral Charm must've had a real count.)
I've thought enough about this to share a post with my Ravnica-Time Spiral-10th Edition (summer 2007 Standard) thoughts, resource links, and lists!
Golgari Grave-Troll, Mystical Teachings, Tarmogoyf and Dark Confidant in their natural habitat.

Control can be board-based or countermagic-based. Card advantage has many tools: Aeon Chronicler, Compulsive Research, Damnation, and others. #mtgweird

Midrange (without Combo). Mana ramp has so many options with 1-drop creatures, Signets and ramp spells. #mtgweird
UGW Blink: moxfield.com/decks/eIWITO...
4c Wish: moxfield.com/decks/Pj3t7Q...
Burn-based Aggro (with Seal of Fire, Char, Lightning Helix and many other spells being quite good). #mtgweird
Rg Aggro: moxfield.com/decks/U-IVMn...
BWR Slivers: moxfield.com/decks/2F9RLI...
Graveyard Synergy (Combo/Midrange). Sacrifice synergies, Dark Confidant and Chord of Calling supplement these strategies. #mtgweird

Before focusing on my lists, here are many decks that look competitive (that I've not explored):
UWR Control/Midrange ; Seismic Assault + Life from the Loam ; Bg Discard ; 5c Greater Gargadon ; Land Destruction ; B Aggro ; GBW Aggro ; Glare of Subdual ; Dragonstorm ; W Martyr ... #mtgweird
Built some paper Ravnica-Time Spiral-10th Edition (August 2007 Standard) decks and got in some games! I built some lists on moxfield, did some test draws and was not too enthused, but after a lot of research: I am very excited to play the era again! (So much that I built 8 decks...)

Fun weekend of #Mtgweird and #retropokemontcg !
Played a decent amount of RAV-TSP-10E standard. Format is just as wild feeling now as ... 18 years ago! Got in some grid drafting w/ Legacy-style & a non-blue lower power grid (twobert?)
Also new Prop 15/3 Metagame Page retrotcgs.com/2025/08/20/p...
Have had a #mtgweird urge to play RAV-TSP-10E Standard. It was roughly June 2007 through Sept. 2007.
I spent a lot of time looking at Mtgtop8.com to recall the decks. Greater Gargadon Red/X. Solar Flare Board control. Seismic Assault. Glittering Wish. Brine Elemental. So many ideas to choose! (1/5)
Drafted 14 3x3 grids of www.cubecobra.com/cube/list/in... #mtgcube this week. Might be best to go to 16, but 14 has scrappy enjoyment.
The decks are a little loose as both drafters were not too focused ๐
red deck won more games! Fun, slower trajectory gameplay #mtgweird
Played 1v1 #mtgcube and Invasion Block Constructed this past week! Going to try to sneak in some posts to recap the fun #mtgweird.
Summary:
* Even quick IBC games take a good 6 or 7 turns when one player cannot stop aggression. Decks need tuning.
* 1v1 cube is finally feeling somewhat balanced!
#mtgcube today and Prop 15/3 paper this coming week. Fine time to be playing cardboard games! Going to try to get some pictures #mtgweird #retropokemontcg

I am sure I've complained too much about Mtg design the past decade, but though I do not enjoy many of the best cards or populations of cards making of contemporary formats, so many awesome cards are being made constantly. Every MTGIP set has many cards that excite me. (1/2)
Kinda obsessed with this Magic card for lower powered #mtgcube . It serviceably blocks and has... +1/+1 counter synergy. #mtgweird
Almost done assembling these 4 Invasion Block Constructed decks and have my thoughts blogged! #mtgweird retrotcgs.com/2025/02/20/i...
Been distracted a bit lately by #mtgweird and #mtgcube but also getting #ptcgweird . Base-Fossil Recaptured is brewing ๐
Hope to get back into Prop 15/3 and Base-Fossil Point Buy testing (beyond Pokemon 1999 leagues) soon! Retro pokemon tcg still super fun๐ฅฐ

Deck 3 (oops, numbering hard ._.): Sigurd Eskeland's Oslo UGR Tempo. Thought of Gaea's Skyfolk as a really cool, simple card; cards aren't so elegant these days... so including UGR Tempo over RG Aggro. The mana looks ... questionable. Main deck in image. #mtgweird (5/5) moxfield.com/decks/tZEFGB...
Deck 4: Cassius Weathersby's Minneapolis BRW Midrange. planned having a BW deck (which was a favorite of mine in late 2001 to play locally) as I was never a fan of RB midrange. I didn't know this deck existed but am excited to try it! Main deck in image. #mtgweird (4/5) moxfield.com/decks/1Xksbu...
Deck 2: Rene Kraft's GP UWR Control. Sunscape Familiar and 1-for-1 spells stop aggression while direct damage, flyers and Goblin Trenches threaten to end the game. There are many different ways to build this color combo! Main deck in image. #mtgweird (3/5) moxfield.com/decks/HCgVEB...
Deck 1: Kai Budde's GP London Domain Control (or is this more of a Prison deck?). IIRC they called it Dark Domain as it played SB Addle & heavy dose of B spells (including Destructive Flow to put other 3-color decks behind on mana). Main deck in image. #mtgweird (2/5) moxfield.com/decks/V7lQOu...
I've been slowly working on building Invasion Block Constructed decks as a self-contained metagame. I think I just want 4 decks: Domain, Control, Midrange and Tempo/Aggro. Today, I am starting with four 2001 Grand Prix Top 8 lists, will play them and change decks or tune lists! #mtgweird (1/5)
I fully support getting #mtgweird with it. For my part, I've been stewing on a way to recapture the feeling of the Shandalar PC game but in paper. Something like a co-op legacy-style board game turned cube draft vs Horde decks. I just need to like, get it out of my head and build it.
Magic: the Gathering has 10s of 1000s of unique cards. It has 30+ years of history. I only read of a few homogenous ways of playing contemporarily.
Anyway, going to build some Invasion Block Constructed decks. Then try to reimagine alpha with no reserved list as a constructed format. #mtgweird
