New NCCI Lüderitz exco promises to support all businesses  Chamwe Kaira  The new executive committee of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Lüderitz branch has pledged to represent businesses of all sizes. It will focus on creating an enabling environment that promotes entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and investment. Alex Gawanab was elected chairperson, with Daniel Hooft as vice-chairperson. Both are prominent figures in the local business community, representing the fishing industry and the emerging kelp-linked sector. In his acceptance speech, Gawanab said Lüderitz has the resources to drive economic growth in the town and the Karas Region through both established industries and new sectors.  He said the committee would work closely with the town council and use the chamber’s structures to present the concerns and proposals of the business community. The elections were facilitated last month by the NCCI secretariat and brought together entrepreneurs of different business sizes.  NCCI chief executive officer Titus Nampala oversaw proceedings, joined by Justine Louw, the Lüderitz Town Council’s economic development planning officer. The session also confirmed the alignment of the Lüderitz Business Forum with NCCI, a move leaders said would strengthen the collective business voice through formal structures. Business leaders, including Samuehl Fluksman and Gawanab, reflected on the chamber’s past work and challenges that slowed branch activities. Nampala outlined the NCCI’s new direction and plans to guide Namibian businesses. The exco’s introduction to the town and regional leadership is ongoing, with a full induction programme scheduled for later this month.  NCCI reaffirmed its commitment to uniting the business community at grassroots and national levels to ensure that policy and strategy reflect private-sector interests. NCCI CEO calls for unity in driving economic transformation In an address to the standing committee on economy and industry, public administration and planning of the National Assembly recently, Titus Nampala, Chief Executive Officer of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), said the chamber must be seen not only as a convener but as a catalyst for inclusive economic transformation.” Nampala emphasised that the chamber’s renewed focus will facilitate that its members, from large corporates to MSMEs, are heard, represented and empowered.  “The chamber is here to amplify the voice of every Namibian business, big or small and to ensure that our policy environment reflects the realities on the ground.” The chamber will be actively working to balance Namibia’s global competitiveness with local relevance. With strong private sector performance across mining, finance, agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, NCCI is advocating for reforms that adapt to shifting national, regional and global dynamics. “Namibia must be a place where international investors find opportunity and where Namibian entrepreneurs thrive,” Nampala said. Nampala highlighted the chamber’s role in supporting Namibia’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy, which recognises the potential of PPPs to drive employment, revenue generation and skills transfer.  “By co-investing with private partners, government can fast-track critical infrastructure, roads, water, power, and telecoms – while sharing risk and unlocking innovation. The NCCI remains committed to advancing a supportive environment for the entire business spectrum. This commitment includes driving reforms aligned with the National Development Plan to strengthen the operating climate for corporates, while also promoting inclusivity for MSMEs through policy-review platforms, tailored support schemes, and grassroots engagement – ensuring that every segment of the business community can thrive. “No Namibian should be left behind. SMEs are the heartbeat of inclusive growth. We must co-create solutions that generate sustainable, decent jobs and unlock opportunity at every level.” Nampala appealed to parliament and the broader business community to work together in a spirit of collaboration, underscoring the shared responsibility of driving national development.  “We are not adversaries. The chamber stands ready to support and build. Together, we can shape a future where policy, investment, and innovation work hand in hand.”

NCCI calls on members to solve industry-specific hurdles Justicia Shipena  Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) chief executive officer Titus Nampala has called on members of the Windhoek Branch to share their expertise to help tackle industry-specific challenges and identify opportunities in high-growth areas. Speaking after the NCCI Windhoek Branch elected a new executive committee on 7 August in the capital, Nampala said the chamber works alongside government to advance economic growth.  The gathering brought together entrepreneurs from micro-enterprises, SMEs, large corporates, and informal sector operators. NCCI president Bisey /Uirab acknowledged the range of expertise represented, from clothing, oil and gas, technology, and creative industries to manufacturing, textiles, urban agriculture, food production, and meat processing.  He said no sector is more important than another, stressing that all sectors need each other.  /Uirab said even the smallest SME contributes as meaningfully as the largest corporation.  He welcomed both long-standing and newly involved members, saying diversity strengthens the NCCI’s ability to advocate for all. Outgoing executive committee members reflected on their term and called on the new leadership to engage informal businesses and underserved areas, which they identified as important drivers of economic growth. The newly elected members are Elago Nantana as chairperson, Jose Mathews as deputy chairperson, Lukas Mungolo, Junias Taukuheke, Prime-Rose Harases, Erastus Nauyoma ‘Mr Chillie Bites’, and Florencia T. Kavendjii. In his acceptance remarks, Nantana, known for his awareness walk from Oranjemund to the Zambezi Region, thanked the members for their confidence in him.  He said his leadership would be guided by service to the business community, adding that the new knowledge economy is about people, numbers, and working together.  He pledged to collaborate with purpose, build partnerships, promote local entrepreneurship, and lead with integrity and inclusivity. The new executive committee will undergo orientation to align with NCCI’s governance and advocacy frameworks.
