Love the colour of these lichens. The mug turned out okay too.

Me and the missus use Mike's mugs every day. Highly recommended.

Some super glaze tests came out of last week's wood firing. These are all wild local glazes, meaning I researched and harvested the materials myself. I am excited and a bit surprised by the variety in color, texture, and opacity.

IT WORKED!! Local stoneware and glaze woodfired to cone 10.

Wood kiln loaded and ready to go. I'm a bit nervous about this one - most pots are glazed with wild local materials, and while I've tested them all this is my first go at a big production run with them.

I put the finishing touches on my #crochet blanket today. Three years in the making, with three exhibitions coming up in St. John's, Ontario, and Ireland.

An amber glaze inside of a small square mug.
This little mug contains some big ideas. It's my first fully self-sourced, entirely local pottery. In fact it is very likely the first fully local clay and glaze object ever made on this island.

Real, actual Newfoundland stoneware pottery. Local clay with a (for now) commercial glaze. Fully vitrified at 1225C, cone 6. #pottery #ceramics #canadianceramics #nlcraft #wildclay #diy #selfsufficient
Mixing a little sand with my local clay makes a HUGE difference for its workability. The sand (from Terra Nova) is a lot less work to process too, which cuts down a bit on the labor involved.
