* I have actually found one refence to boron minerals on the west coast and I'm going to check it out this summer. Not getting my hopes up though :)

Nice colour combo on this thrown and altered porcelain vase. The bare porcelain flashes orange and the glaze is the perfect complement. The glaze is 50% granite, 20% quartz, 20% limestone, and 10% clay, all sourced from nearby.

Happy Labour Day weekend from the home of the labour movement in NL, Port Union. I'm fiddling about in the studio today, but definitely not working too hard. Just slowly unloading and admiring these new #wildclay #wildglaze pots.

A few weeks ago I did a little excursion to hunt for ceramic materials. On this trip I mostly focused on metal minerals that can be used to color glazes. First stop was Pigeon Island where I had heard that titanium ores (rutile) could be found.

My class at HSAD really wanted to know more about #wildglaze so we made few tests.
Left: 33/33/33 clay/woodash/feldspar
Right: 50/50 clay/woodash
Pretty good results!

Some super glaze tests came out of last week's wood firing. These are all wild local glazes, meaning I researched and harvested the materials myself. I am excited and a bit surprised by the variety in color, texture, and opacity.
