Husk was a lifeline on those nights, someone he could tangle around and lie against or under, who would hold him on just the right side of tight and help him get some rest. Clearly Angel can’t be sober and dopeless just yet. Besides, Husk still makes the best drinks. Angel’s proud of him for cutting back on the booze already; Husk hasn’t binged in weeks. But staying at the Hazbin meant finding a niche that works for them outside of Angel’s former profession and Husk’s former status as an overlord. Angel’s phone was abandoned after that sniper grunt killed the Hellhound driver and crashed his car. Vox hand-waved the idea when Val pouted about not having a personal one two weeks ago, before he’d even solidified his plans to get Angel back. Vox insisted on how much Valentino liked going to his clubs to play there, but eventually conceded when he realized it would make Valentino stop pouting. He ignores it all and speedwalks for the door, Dottie right behind him, tapping away on her phone. “Relax, baby!” Angel says easily. “I been doin’ this shit since I was a kid!” “Angel, I swear to fuck, if you get hurt—!” “Aw!” Angel coos. “You worried about lil’ ole me, sweetcheeks? I can hold ‘em off, we’re on the way back anyway, okay?” he promises casually, and Husk wants to believe him, but they’re preparing for war, goddammit. “Angel, Jesus Christ,” Husk grumbles, office door slamming as he busts out into the hall, picking up the pace toward the elevator. He should’ve gotten a balcony for his office, if he’d ever thought to let himself fly more often. He doesn’t really like to, still occasionally deeply disoriented by his demonic body. It’s not the same as having extra arms, but wings are extra appendages, and not everyone who gets stuck with them can even fly. Husk can, but it means both practicing with and feeling his wings beyond controlling their reactions and reflexes to maintain his poker faces. But ever since Angel started helping him preen and care for them, always happy to touch them or call them “pretty” and “lustrous” and “gorgeous—” Well, he’s been appreciating them a lot more lately.

Maybe they’re a mafia front, because it looks to him like either the street is perfectly fine or they just finished whatever asphalt flattening they were doing. A strange niggling in the back of his brain makes him question his own internal joke, his eyebrows dipping as he lowers his phone from scrolling Sinstagram and brings his legs down from stretching across the backseat to the car floor. He tucks his phone into his fluff and grabs either side of the front seats, leaning forward over the center console with a curious frown. He realizes each visible construction worker is Hellborn: imp, Greed shark, or some combination. Years of mafia living makes his body react before his brain knows what’s up, and Angel wordlessly smacks Kincaid’s upper arm a few times, eyes widening as his heart rate kicks up. Fuck.

Gasping, Angel pops his head up from nuzzling Cherri’s crown and grins wildly at Fizzarolli in his fitted sequined suit, a deep blue with turquoise accents that complement his plus-one’s natural palette, Asmodeus hovering in the corridor with a bright green smile. Fizz tips down his heart-shaped shutter shades and bounces his eyebrows with a silly grin, his silver jester’s cap bells jingling softly as he stretches his robotic legs to spring forward and circle all three of them with his extending arms. He hums sweetly and Angel wriggles a top arm free to give his arms a gentle squeeze, heart full and head mounting with anticipation. When Fizz backs off to let them breathe, Pentious muttering something about how he’s a better constrictor than himself, Cherri tugs the snake aside with her to let the little imp get a proper, personal hug from Angel, who immediately crouches to do so. “Heya, Fizz,” he greets, voice cracking. He almost tears up, the imp wrapping them both in his arms and squeezing comfortingly. He just did his makeup, he doesn’t have time to perfect it again! “Thanks for comin’, baby,” he says through a rough laugh. He glances up to see Ozzie bent halfway into the room, and decidedly rises, picking Fizz up with his lower arms and earning a giggle. He walks right into Ozzie’s open arms and relaxes as the Sin of Lust embraces both of them.

a preview of chapter 37 of Stardust In Your Eyes: Heavenly damage is usually a sinner’s final death blow, if not an eternal disability like those that lost a limb or survived getting speared, and even a powerful, showboating overlord like the Radio Demon would need time to heal from an attack by the leader of the angelic army. So Vox spied on his tower, spied on the other residents, spied on — he can’t even believe it, either — the fucking devil himself. He watched them rebuild that dumb hotel even bigger, like suddenly people would come flocking after watching them get directly targeted for extermination. Sure Lucifer played the big hero or whatever the fuck, but you’d have to be stupid to get under that spotlight before knowing what they’re planning upstairs! It did make great television, though. Either way, Vox found himself obsessing over what Alastor was up to, reaming him online and across social media for his defeat, casually accepting Velvette’s coordinated “#memelordVox” trend with charm and fanfare after having her on as a guest on his late night show. His looped reaction video with the sound effects and commentary got a million views overnight when he released it the day after the battle. Alastor is a fucking laughingstock, memed to the Sloth Ring and back in every media format he hates. When Vox thinks of Alastor finding out, the face he’d make, the shapes he might take, roaring and trashing whatever room he might be in? Well, he can only get so hard.

She radiates the sort of energy one expects from a freshly graduated child development major clutching her shiny new teaching degree. It’s a lot, even at 2 PM. “Welcome to the Hazbin Hotel, where redemption is just a few months of hard work and self-improvement away!” An optimist, huh? He’s never met her before, but he’s heard the Princess of Hell is a bleeding heart with the eagerness of a golden retriever; so far, so accurate. He puts a hand up, shaking his head as several demons around them gawk less than subtly on their way out. “All due respect, Your Highness,” Husker says evenly, tipping his red and gold die-topped cane out to his side, anchored by his foot. “I ain’t here for that.”
