The pic shows three women enjoying a day out at a street festival. The woman on the left is smiling so widely it looks like her face might break. She is wearing ridiculously large black sunglasses and a black vest top and leggings. She has good shoulders. The woman on the right has blonde wavy hair in a loose bun, she is doing the two fingered salute and she is wearing pink lipstick that matches the pink heart on her black tee shirt. In a middle a young disabled woman sits in a buggy . She is wearing tie dye leggings, a denim jacket, pink tee and pink sunglasses. She looks happy. In the background are period houses and stalls with people walking up and down the street , which is closed to traffic for the day

B loves going out, so that’s my excuse for bringing her to lots of events and activities that we both enjoy. Because we both deserve a good life. Today it was the Stoneybatter Street Festival, including outdoor Zumba 😍💃

Day 7 of #RealCarersWeek - The joys (no sarcasm!). Visiting E yesterday and sitting playing music to each other while B danced along in her chair. This was my favourite of the ones he shared with me ☺️

Just mealy-mouthed posts when you call #government plans”Sensible”to strip income from most #carers in our #Halesowen constituency, with the removal of #PIP to 5945 #disabled people and therefore #CarersAllowance . Many #carers are also disabled themselves #RealCarersWeek #DisabilityRebellion #UK

Day 6 of #RealCarersWeek - Housing headaches: in 2021, I was lucky enough to buy the only suitable new bungalow I’d seen for sale in 8 years, in the catchment area of B’s service, and with a developer willing to make bespoke changes to meet her needs 1/2

It's estimated that unpaid family carers save the UK economy £184 billion each year.
All for the £2.35ph that Carers Allowance pays.

Just out from my DEXA scan appointment, and I’ve got one result already.

It’s confirmed that I’ve shrunk 6 cm in height since I was younger.

Probably due to all the lifting

Teen with learning disabilities made to pay Corseford College costs Lorna Greenaway says her local council is billing her daughter £5,500 for support such as transport over the past two years.

Disgraceful stuff from @eastayrshire.bsky.social

It’s Carers Awareness week and my timelines are full of friends sharing their stories of being a carer, hoping that this year’s hashtag will make a difference, whilst knowing it probably won’t.

This year, I’d like to tell you the difference carers make to me. I know through being one myself that we are often unseen but what we do see is each other. This is a journey only we know and we share experiences of love, frustration, heartbreak, exhaustion, empathy and the constant fight for inclusion, access and acceptance – not to mention basic human rights.

Many of my friends are carers, as well as the wonderful paid carers that support Brody, and I would be lost without them. Carers support carers. We look out for each other. We are there for each another. We get each other. We fight for each other. We care for each other.

Carers are selfless, kind and the best tonic for other carers – despite being drained by society and the system.

I see you. I bloody love you. I know the difference you truly make. And I’m grateful that you exist.

I'm not going to mince my words here, as I am sick of seeing LA's & orgs activities/events for unpaid carers on here this week with not a thought or reasonable adjustment re funding for unpaid carer's who can't attend due to role - how is that inclusive to all ? #RealCarersWeek

#TooMuchStressDotIE sometimes being a carer is completely overwhelming

Both B and E are being affected by services having a bad case of “Our way, or no way”, including B’s long awaited respite place

And guess who has deal with the fallout?

Day 3 of #RealCarersWeek Eggshells. Always there when supporting someone with mental health difficulties. Treading a fine line between advocating for their will & preference to be respected, & support to reach their goals, while gently encouraging them to meet their basic health & life needs

More job apps today. Tom will be starting Supported Living in a few months & I will immediately lose Carers Allowance & part of my UC. So even though I've not had a 'proper' Full Time job (i.e. not self employed or niche) for 26yrs & am almost 60, I'm back on the Jobs Market! Scary!

Day 2 of #RealCarersWeek Let’s talk about laundry, cos there’s loads of it

There’s more stuff, and it needs to be washed more often:

Bedclothes
Adult bibs
Pajamas
Changing mats
Day Clothes
Wheelchair seat covers
Sleep system
Slings

So I got a text and then an email shortly before midnight, cancelling Tom's Social Care today.
Fabulous!
*Changes all my plans*
*wonders what the fuck I'm going to do about work*

Day 1 of #RealCarersWeek and yeah disability admin is a horror story, and just piles pressure and stress onto unpaid carers

All I did today was a couple of online orders: including for extra nappies, as the Health service only provides a maximum of 4 per day

Not always enough!

My plans for a career in astrophysics were fucked when I found out that there was no childcare.. it's the 21st century.

Instead of researching black holes, I’ve spent 15 years suggesting ideas, needing Essex County Council to fulfil their duties under the Childcare Act & Care Act. #realcarersweek

The levels of stress & fear affecting carers as a result of the Government's incompetence with Carers Allowance overpayments are horrendous.
