A large reddish brown and white hound dog stands on a pebbly beach by a large muddy river. He was surrendered to the SPCA in 2021 and has been my hiking buddy since we adopted him. In the background there are deciduous trees along the shore then mountains covered in evergreen trees. Two peaks in the centre are topped with rocky crags and snow. The Indigenous name for the mountain means “two heads.”

The water is muddy and a large metal bridge crosses the river in the distance in the fog. His interest surprises me since we’ve walked by this piece of grating many times when the river is lower and he has shown no interest. Maybe it was just an excuse to get wet!
