Many turkeytail mushrooms are growing on a tree trunk washed up by a flood on the bank of a normally harmless stream. They are brown due to prolonged drought.
One specimen lies on moss. It was soaked and now displays a range of colours, from purple and blue to green, orange and beige.
The underside of the mushroom, before it was soaked, resembles a sponge.
