I got it into my head to create a Rigify sample for my Piston rigging setup. And spent several hours figuring out the Rigify API.
After many an error, mistaken assumption and just plain typoes, this now exists and actually works!

There's one, how should I say it, over-sight in the #rigify arm rig in #blender that just drives me bonkers.

I did use the humanoid rig rather than the cat rig, but the spine is identical in both rigs. I'm guessing either my torso is too short or I just didn't place the spine bones in the right places.

The 'head' rig type mimics Rigify's 'super_head' but adds options to create a head_squash bone and a headtrack mechanism. For this it analyses it's parent and extends to mechanism down to the spine chain. All compatible with native rigify types. #b3d #blender #rigify #pinerig

Turns out you can't find ready-made rigs for a crab-octopus-like monster!
I discovered that the real power of Rigify lies in combining prebuilt sub-rigs in a modular way (e.g. lego bricks, modular assets). This is going to be such a time saver!

Update on the face rig. It can now be generated from any rigify face metarig. You just need to adjust some actions by tweaking some keyframes and you are good to go. CTRL bones can be moved anywhere. #b3d #blender #rigify youtu.be/l1PzAq_FLX0
