When we get back to the put-in, it's overrun with college kids ready to float and drink, which is fine - but we have no time for them. He's going again and I regret not joining him for a second run, but I have more driving to do.

It was just a 12 mile paddle and he caught up with me at mile 9; he's in a surfski and can easily leave me behind while I'm pushing my little blackwater 10.5 up to it's physical ceiling ( approx. 5 mph on flat water ).

He's kind, he's excited, and we share stories of paddling. He regales me with his adventures and challenges, we talk about each other's boats, and at times we silently glide together in perfect sync - parallel or staggered.

In a recent river trip an older gent saddled up next to me, a local in that area of the #blueriver in Indiana, and we were instantly friends. I'm merely a guest in his domain from that point on.
