The post-rainfall shiny cobblestoned square is bounded a four-story building on the left and the side of the church on the right. The night sky overhead silhouettes a large tree in the center. The spotlighted bell tower lies just beyond on the right. Around the perimeter of the piazza, umbrellas and canopy structures cover tables, chairs, and groups of outdoor diners.

Following yesterday's post of Rome's Santa Maria in Trastevere, this is the scene right around the corner in Sant'Egido. That's the church's belltower and side walls on the right. A pasta dinner anyone? (Acrylic, 16"x20"x2" on wood panel). #art #fineart #romeart #trastevere #acrylicpainting

In the left-central section of the painting, the church elevation features an arcade of arches fronting an illuminated porch. Topping that arcade is a balastrade which supports four statues, which are silhouetted by the spotlit upper section of the church, including sections covered in gold mosaics. Sandwiched between that facade and teh building next door, the church's belltower points into the deep blue night sky. In the foreground, a tiered water fountain sits atop a series of steps. Some folks sit on those steps, while clusters of people fill manu corners of the square.

Santa Maria in Trastevere (an ancient district of Rome) has elements which date back to the 340s, though most is new (1140s). The piazza and it's founhtain, in front is the center of public life day and night. (Acrylic, 11"x14"x1.5" on wood panel). #art #fineart #romeart #trastevere #acrylicpaint
