This is one of the times when the lectionary is quite helpful.
The prophets: Take care of people, dangit!
Jesus: I came not to abolish the prophets but fulfill them.

'Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it...'
'When you give a banquet invite the poor...'
Readings for Sunday's Eucharist leading nicely to a sermon about the current discourse on immigration

The river Mersey, green riverbanks, blue skies
The river cam, seen through metal fencing
The Thames, with the London Eye in background
Wooden bridge over the river Tweed
Rivers
Sources of life, places of profound encounter and transformation
Both the rivers that sweep through our landscapes, and the rivers of living waters, are places where hope flows

Some days, you need the big Bible. #SermonWriting
Jesus' fellowship with sinners provokes conflict with religious leaders. The father in the parable offends the older son by welcoming the younger one home.
Unfortunately for me, the ministry of reconciliation is not the ministry of nobody can ever be mad at me. #sermonwriting
The great diversity of the image of God within each other has been reduced by many who claim to follow Jesus to a hierarchical us vs. them system, which we know will lead to oppression, marginalization, and a devaluing of the image of God in others. #sermonwriting #BeUMC
This weeks sermon writing:
Scripture: Luke 13:31-35—The Hens and the Chicks
Remaining focused and committed in the face of risky and dangerous situations. Jesus comforts us in these times like a hen does her brood.
I swear, I prepped this series back in Decemeber.

Mary must be extremely popular to get a +13 on her wedding invitation. #sermonwriting
Oops it's me doing all the Christmas Eve sermon don'ts, politics and intertextual Gospel analysis. #sermonwriting
Petition to translate Μεγαλύνει / magnificat in Mary's song as "my soul embiggens the Lord." This is an amazing pun. Mary's soul enlarges the Lord in praise while her body enlarges Lord cell by cell in pregnancy. I'm 100% sure people have noticed this before but mad I didn't know! #sermonwriting

One of the convienent fictions we have loved is the idea that Christianity is only about believing the right things. There’s a reason we love the verses that talk about the sufficency of our own beliefs—it puts us, by definition, in the right and in the drivers seat.
The prophet Isaiah: "Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low."
The prophet Beyonce: "You say move a mountain; I'll throw on my boots."
As we prepare the way for God's love, we're called to try impossible things and start unfinishable things.

Welcome to Friday, where I stare at a blank page for hours praying for the Holy Spirit to give me words to say on Sunday. #SermonWriting #EveryDayImPastoring #DoWeDoHashtagsOnBlueSky
First my daughter introduced me to Frieren, then my son got me hooked on JJK and Demon Slayer... now it's Vinland Saga. Manga provides such coherent and epic story-telling and anime is a really enjoyable way to engage. #SermonWriting
