Hence the word "head" being used to refer to sailor's toilets. These would have been the toilets used by the non-officers. Officers generally had their own bathroom(s) within the section of their quarters aft (where the stern or quarter gallery is) or had bed pans"

The ship in my zine is a cog. They were an old design by the later 15th century, but I assume you'd probably still have seen some around being used for river travel at that time, esp in the Rhine region.
