Anfang des gedruckten Artikels: Dzom So’o – eine kulturelle Entität im transnationalen Forschungsdialog Emmanuel Nga Atangana, Dechanel Kouameney Tankeu und Richard Hölzl Die Skulpturengruppe Dzom So’o ist ein monumentales und erzählerisch gestaltetes Werk. Auf einen etwa 460 cm langen Holzbalken sind zwei männliche und eine weibliche Figur montiert, die von einer Schlitztrommel an einem Ende und einer großen Schlange sowie zwei Vögeln am anderen gerahmt werden (Abb. 1). Laut historischen Aufzeichnungen kam das Werk bei der Initiation männlicher Jugendlicher im Kameruner Waldland um Yaoundé zum Einsatz. Seit 1922 im Besitz des Museums Fünf Kontinente (damals: Museum für Völkerkunde), war die Figurengruppe ab 1999 bis ca. 2014 zentraler Teil der Dauerausstellung »Kunst aus Afrika«. Im Katalog zur Ausstellung wird spekuliert, der Kolonialoffizier Hans Dominik habe das Werk zwischen 1894 und 1900 »offensichtlich in verwahrlostem Zustand in einem Wald« aufgefunden und dann mitgenommen.
