Here’s the finished ring! The story is, my customer got Australian opal earrings from her son. She was sad that she wasn’t able to admire the opals while she was wearing them, so her solution was to make a thumb ring. That way she can see them all the time. #customjewelry #silversmith #smithsky

My favorite thing in a jewelry shop is to sort by price, usually high-low. It’s fun to see the big-ticket stuff first, then work my way down to the middle/low end where the bread and butter stuff lives.

Hi, I’m making dinner but have a few minutes here and there to pop in. I see a few people I follow on pinterest that do collections - they’ll have 7-10 pieces with the same stone/theme and release them all at once, but it doesn’t seem a big thing anymore

If I remember correctly it was used for a while when coins were made from actual silver, but it was too soft so sterling was adopted as the official minimum again. I think. #SmithSky

An italian friend of mine was telling me that she has some old Italian silver pieces with an 800 mark on them. Apparently an 80% silver purity was normal in the 20th Century. The minimum in the UK has been 925 since the 12th century. #SmithSky
