Whitwar The Whitwar — reviving a charitable children's magazine first published in 1903 in aid of the Little Folks Ward, Bethnal Green, London.

It's niche, but I'm really enjoying discovering these almost forgotten stories that shaped our social history.

'D'Absinthe' by Kees van Dongen, 1902. A cruel but no doubt accurate depiction of the effect the narcotic wormwood-derived liquor had on the working population of continental Europe. I suppose the London equivalent would have been gin.

Senate published a number of paperbacks in the mid 90s, they were cheap reprints of books originally printed in the early 1900s with a bias towards history. They were fascinating and I've just re-read this one, first published in 1910
