730-foot freighter was a straggler, last ship through Soo Locks for the winter The locks were supposed to close at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, but waiting for this freighter pushed the closing time well past 3 a.m.

The American Mariner, downbound for Buffalo, New York, was officially the last freighter through the #SooLocks for the season. The locks are now closed for winter maintenance, set to reopen March 25. #GreatLakes
