Some #speleothems can have very dark colours, yet contain zero non-carbonate residue. They effectively grew in ancient "clean rooms", incorporating colloidal organics directly from dripwater (maybe from microbes). Pliocene, Nullarbor, Australia (photo:@isotopedude.bsky.social) 🧪
