While out in the garden tonight, I remembered that Hills of Heather and Bone turns 2 today! It's truly been a special journey writing and publishing this book. It was a #spfbo9 finalist and I'm continually blown away by everyone who has it picked up and connected with the story.

I forgot we were in December already, so first up for #indieadvent is Murder at Spindle Manor by Morgan Stang. The winner of #spfbo9 has murder, mystery, and the magical ability to draw you in.

Going to try and do a good-vibes only review thread of #SPFBO9 books as I read them (so it will probably take some time). Good-vibes only not because I don't see the value in critique, but because it's just for fun and plays more to my comfort level!

The cover sits at the center of the image. It shows the head of a wolf surrounded and adorned with Celtic knotwork and floats over a backdrop of a forest of dark tree trunks. FINAL day 126 of my #SPFBO9 opening reads (Lynn's Books + Critiquing Chemist)
I had fun with this group's energetic, LGBTQ finalist! Another opening wasn't quite as solid with its motivations as it could be. Thank you so much for coming along with me! Final wrap-up soon!

Day 125 of my #SPFBO9 opening reads (Lynn's Books + Critiquing Chemist)
I found two supernaturally tinged fantasies. A semi-finalist went big with a demon-bound, ageless, sapphic knight (yowee! ... or, I guess that's yuri.) Another was a Seoul based UF with fae and more! x.com/Tom_Mock/sta...

Day 124 of my #spfbo9 opening reads (Lynn's Books + Critiquing Chemist)
A well-written, immersive, mature fantasy to begin with today steeped in the intrigues of power, followed by an opening with characters that were on far too shaky ground for me.

Day 123 of my #SPFBO9 opening reads (BWGB & Weatherwax Report)
I missed an opening from Before We Go Blog. I'm sorry I did, because though it stumbles early, when it gets its feet under itself it is, possibly, an overlooked gem.
I also found a competent classic fantasy opening.

Day 122 of my #SPFBO9 opening reads (Weatherwax Report)

I was interested in two more books based on their openings, both with female protagonists. One is a bit of a meta fantasy. The other seems like it has a classic fairytale backbone.
