As of last week it started to rain, finally, so I’m back!
I went out today and found this Tetranychus species of spider mite, complete with webbing, which you can just make out in the background. A stunningly beautiful colour. I can still take photos, which is a relief.

This is how spider mites mate! The male is usually smaller and more elongated than the female. This allows the male to fold its whole idiosoma in half in order to reach its aedeagus to the females genital orifice.

My 'cabbage on a stick' plant (Brighamia insignis) has started flowering again, exactly 1 year since it last did. A very weird #houseplant and very susceptible to #spidermite, but I really like it. It thrives on a South-facing window sill. It has added about 3cm of growth since this time last year.
