It took a while (mainly due to the huge quantity of data collected on some questions!), but the #StateOfHTML 2025 survey results are now live!

Big thanks to @lea.verou.me who not only designed the original survey back in 2023, but then came back this year to update it.
When looking at results from web development surveys (e.g. #StateofHTML), what are you looking for when looking at the data? What conclusions are you trying to draw?
Two Pie charts titled "Complaints about specific browsers" showing about half Safari browser, around a third Firefox, and about a sixth Chrome
Two Pie charts titled "Complaints about specific vendors", one titled "All complaints" and the second "Explicitly about interop". The first is showing around 55% Apple, with a tiny sliver of Microsoft and the rest split evenly across Google and Mozilla, whereas the second is 100% Apple.
Two Pie charts titled "Mobile vs desktop", one titled "All complaints" and the second "Explicitly about interop". Both are showing about a third desktop and two thirds mobile.
Two Pie charts titled "Complaints about specific platforms", one titled "All complaints" and the second "Explicitly about interop". The first is showing around three quarters iOS, around 15% Android, a tiny sliver of Linux, and the rest split evenly across MacOS and Microsoft Windows. The second chart is >80% iOS, with the rest being Android.
Computing some preliminary analysis over the #StateOfHTML pain points data and some …interesting patterns are emerging 🙃
Features Score 465 points Of the 67 features mentioned in the survey, you have used 26 and heard of 41 more, which puts you in the top 1% of all respondents. Well done!
Despite leading this year’s #StateOfHTML survey, I procrastinated in typical me fashion and submitted my response in the last few hours — I had to beg @sachagreif.com to leave it open for just a little longer 🫣

State of html final board and score
Finished #stateofhtml survey (thanks @lea.verou.me ) !
My answer is pretty much: all of this sounds cool, but I live in world with designers and React.
Which of these HTML reuse strategies do you use? Select all that apply. * 🚫 Nothing, I write good ol’ HTML out by hand * Server-side templating (e.g. PHP) * Build-time templating (e.g. static site generators) * Component-based JS frameworks (React, Vue, Svelte, etc) * Web Components (any) * Web Components helpers (Lit, Stencil, Polymer, etc) * Lightweight markup languages that compile to HTML (e.g. Markdown) * General HTML preprocessors (e.g. Pug, Haml)
Quick pulse check as @sachagreif.com and I finalize #StateOfHTML:
If you were presented with this question in a survey:
a) Do you know which options to check or would you be confused?
b) Are there any options you'd personally need to enter but are missing?
(this post may self-destruct tomorrow…)
🔥 I have news! After a 1y hiatus, I’m once again leading this year’s #StateOfHTML survey, thanks to generous funding by Google. ❤️
🙋🏽♀️ Is there is an HTML feature or Web API you're dying to see progress on? Suggest it and it could be included!

This is about one of the novel UIs I designed when leading #StateOfHTML 2023 — the one I’m most proud of. 💙
Been meaning to write this for over a year, finally found time during this break!

An email with the subject "Discover the results of the first ever State of HTML survey". The content of the email is a broken image with the alt text "Insert alt text here".
Well I guess this kind of says everything about the state of HTML, no?

After popular demand, we decided to extend the #StateOfHTML survey until Oct 16th. 🥳
Last chance to take it, or finalize your answers if you have already taken it!
