Other than #JackLayton I can’t think of another opposition leader in Canada’s political history who made such an imprint on the national consciousness as #StephenLewis.
It was some of the best radio I’ve ever heard. They were magic together. Three of the most thoughtful & erudite political minds the country has produced. To me, #StephenLewis was the star…What was lovely was that for all their differences those wise men cared for each other.
#StephenLewis was one of the best of us…a brilliant orator w/ a huge intellect. He was so deeply humane. I used to miss morning Economics classes just to listen to him, #DaltonCamp & #EricKierans discuss Canadian politics w/ #PeterGzowski on CBC’s Morningside. It was worth it.
A remarkable thing about #StephenLewis is that he never held power. He was never a premier or a prime minister. He was a provincial opposition leader. Even before becoming UN ambassador he had tremendous moral suasion in Canada & was regarded as a national leader…a statesman.
It's a sad day when the world loses a good man. #StephenLewis, part of an NDP dynasty (father of Avi), used his oratory to mobilize against #poverty, #apartheid & #AIDS and for #genderequality & the #environment. ❤️
