Norwich Castle, c.13th Century graffiti of woman wearing a wimple.
Standing in front of this, you almost feel that nothing more than a blink separates you from the moment it was scored into the rock.

Caerwent head

Caerwent head

A few years ago I had the good fortunate to l handle this Caerwent find, usually displayed at Newport Museum, when it returned 'home' on a day trip for a S4C TV programme. Celtic? British? Romano-British?

Celtic stone head carved in sandstone.

Celtic stone head carved in sandstone.

Hendy Head, Llanfairpwll, Anglesey. Tricky to date but plausibly Iron Age.
Did this stare down on the Menai Strait in AD60 when the Romans attacked & witness “..women in black like Furies wave torches & Druids pour forth dreadful curses..”? (Tacitus)
