You put them in jail, in the hope that it will discourage others.
Making an example of the idiots who felled the tree in the #SycamoreGap was supposed to send that message but doesn't apear to have worked.
Maybe a repeat (long sentence) might do the trick.

Just watched the Sycamore Gap documentary on C4.

I remember feeling quite sad about it at the time, but what I didn't know, was how fucking dim the perpetrators were. The way they got caught is an absolute embarrassment.
