Texas probes M&M maker Mars’ resistance to removing synthetic dyes (Reuters) -Texas’ attorney general said on Wednesday he has begun investigating Mars, which makes M&M’s and Skittles candies, for its alleged refusal to remove synthetic food dyes from its products. Ken Paxton, the attorney general, said in a statement that he issued a civil investigative demand for documents from Mars, as he examines whether the family-owned company violated consumers’ rights through deceptive trade practices. Paxton said Mars has not fulfilled its 2016 pledge to remove all artificial colors from food products, saying it had removed "toxic" dyes in Europe but not the United States. "It’s time for Mars to follow the lead of other companies like Nestle (NSE:NEST) and Hershey by removing synthetic dyes from its products," Paxton said. "It’s the right thing to do." Mars, based in McLean, Virginia, had no immediate comment. Removing synthetic food dyes and reducing Americans’ consumption of ultraprocessed foods has been a priority for U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, as part of his "Make America Healthy Again" campaign. Kennedy has blamed the dyes for health problems including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and cancer, though many scientists say more research is needed. General Mills (NYSE:GIS), J.M. Smucker, Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ:KHC) and PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), as well as Hershey and Nestle, are among companies that have committed to removing the dyes by 2028 or earlier. Mars has said its consumers have different attitudes toward artificial colors in food depending on where they live, with European consumers preferring the dyes removed while other consumers prefer to keep them. Hershey to drop synthetic dyes from its snacks by 2027, Bloomberg News reports (Reuters) -Hershey Co will remove synthetic dyes from its snacks by the end of 2027, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, making it the latest in a growing list of companies seeking to align with directives from U.S. health authorities. In April, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary rolled out plans to remove synthetic food dyes from the U.S. food supply to address health conditions such as ADHD, obesity and diabetes. "Removing these colors is a natural next step in our program to ensure consumers have options to fit their lifestyle while maintaining trust and confidence in our products," Hershey’s spokesperson said in a statement to Bloomberg. Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Hershey did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours. Hershey’s snack brands include Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels, SKINNYPOP popcorn and FULFIL protein bars. Several firms, including W.K. Kellogg, Tyson Foods (NYSE:TSN), Conagra Brands (NYSE:CAG), Nestle (NSE:NEST) USA and General Mills (NYSE:GIS) have been actively reformulating their product portfolio to exclude artificial colors and are introducing new items free of synthetic dyes.

I simply do not understand how #RFK wants to ban all #syntheticDyes yet harps about too much regulation. I'm confused on his motives but agree, we should ban all synthetic dyes from food. I'd rather eat bugs than petroleum products.
