The Blastobasis sp. I found on Nov. 30-Dec 02 has now been confirmed (without dissection) by the CMR as B. vittata on account of the 'clear black shoulder marks'. Be interesting to see how he feels about the one I found this morning alongside 2 moths that look more like adustella. VC25 #teammmoth.

It’s #NationalMothWeek… so I’d better post some moths 😁

It’s mid-winter here in Western Australia, but we still have a few moths around. Like this Pantydia capistrata, a moth of the Erebidae family seen in WA, New South Wales and Queensland.

Also NFY here in Whetstone last night was Tree-lichen Beauty - now expected and annual since 2019. It's almost starting to become more frequent in my garden and with higher max. counts than Marbled Beauty! #vc55moths #teammmoth

Buttoned Snout moth.

I didn't see this Buttoned Snout myself. It was on the wall in my late mum-in-law's house today. They hibernate as adults of course. There is only 1 record for this species on this date on the county site. #teammmoth.

#teammmoth is it possible to teach yourself moth dissection? In theory it looks possible from the reading I’ve been doing, but as a ex lab person I suspect it is more difficult than it looks. It’s also thrown up a lot of questions!
