Sewn to a small square of watercolor paper is a dark red crochet motif with four center petals and 12 outer clusters, forming a sort of wonky octogon with 4 of the corners cut off.

The magazine I found this motif in suggested that you use size 20 thread (the thickest in the issue!) to make *484* of them into a formal dinner tablecloth, 45 inches square. Care to guess what era this dates from?

From left to right: the next ink-bottle stamp, the first one I stamped and then emptied pens onto before cleaning them, and then a re-do with watercolor instead of ink. Even with only a 3 inch square, sometimes mistakes are gonna be made.
