(사진=골든문 엔터테인먼트) 무대에 앞서 김동준은 20대 시절 출연했던 당시를 떠올리며 “20대에 출연했던 제가 30대가 돼 다시 오니 감회가 새롭다”고 말했다. 이어 故 김광석에 대해 “제 삶을 바꿔주신 분”이라고 표현하며 남다른 인연을 언급했다. 그는 고등학생 때 가요제 오디션을 준비하며 부른 곡으로 김광석의 ‘사랑했지만’을 꼽았다. 당시 이 무대를 계기로 캐스팅을 받았다고 밝히며 “그때 가요제에서 캐스팅 돼서 지금이 제가 있다”고 설명해 김광석 노래에 담긴 자신의 출발점을 짚었다. 이번 특집을 대하는 각오도 분명했다. 김동준은 “출정하는 마음으로 (왕중왕전) 남은 티켓 하나를 제가 노려보고 싶다”며 도전 의지를 드러냈다. 그러면서 “제가 오늘 무기를 한 아름 안고 왔다”고 말하며 준비해 온 무대에 대한 자신감을 내비쳤다. 그가 말한 ‘무기’는 현재 출연 중인 뮤지컬 ‘은밀하게 위대하게: THE LAST’ 팀과의 협업 무대였다. 김동준은 “뮤지컬 ‘은밀하게 위대하게’ 팀원들과 함께 무대를 꾸민다. 화려한 퍼포먼스도 있고 감동적인 연기도 있다”고 예고해 한층 확장된 무대를 예감하게 했다. 이날 방송에서 김동준은 뮤지컬 ‘은밀하게 위대하게: THE LAST’에서 함께하는 앙상블 팀과 ‘이등병의 편지’를 선택해 무대를 완성했다. 그는 북한 엘리트 요원 원류환 역을 맡아 활동 중인 작품과의 인연으로 팀과 호흡을 맞췄다. 무대에서는 잔잔한 도입부에서 시작해 폭발적인 클라이맥스로 이어지는 구성 속에서 폭넓은 음역대를 오가며 가창력을 드러냈다. 김동준의 목소리에 앙상블의 보컬이 더해지며 하나의 곡을 입체적으로 쌓아 올렸다. 또한 앙상블과의 호흡으로 만들어낸 하모니와 한 편의 영화 같은 웅장한 연출이 함께 어우러졌다. 청춘을 향한 위로를 담은 곡의 정서에 무대 연기가 더해지면서 관객들에게 벅찬 감정을 전달했다. 무대 말미에는 사랑하는 어머니를 향해 절도 있는 경례를 올리며 곡의 메시지를 마무리했다. 이 장면까지 더해지면서 관객석에서는 뜨거운 박수갈채가 이어졌다. 결과는 우승이었다. 김동준은 이날 ‘故 김광석 30주기 추모 특집 1부’에서 최종 우승을 차지하며 다시 한 번 무대 위 실력을 입증했다. 오랜 시간 축적한 경험과 뮤지컬 활동에서 다진 역량이 특집 무대에서 드러난 셈이다. 우승 소감에서 그는 “10년 만에 찾은 ‘불후의 명곡’인데 우승까지 해서 더욱 특별한 날이 됐다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “뮤지컬 ‘은밀하게 위대하게’ 팀과 함께하며 그 힘을 받아 우승한 것 같아 진심으로 기쁘다”고 말하며 함께한 팀에 공을 돌렸다. 그러면서 “함께 무대를 준비한 모든 팀원들과 축하와 감사한 마음을 나누고 싶다”고 덧붙였다. 동료들과의 합이 오늘 무대의 핵심이었음을 강조한 대목이다. 한편 김동준은 뮤지컬 ‘은밀하게 위대하게: THE LAST’를 통해 객석에서도 관객과 만나고 있다. 해당 작품은 서울 NOL 씨어터 대학로 우리카드홀에서 오는 4월 26일까지 공연된다.
