Photo of a very colorful yellow and green geothermic pool. We were amazed by the weird beauty and variety of Yellowstone’s geyser fields and geothermal pools, like the Morning Glory Pool. It’s about 20 feet deep in the visible portion, and about 30 feet in width. The white rim crust and ground cover are mostly calcium salt, not snow. The brilliant colors are from heat-tolerant thermophilic bacteria, each colony of which has a distinctive color. The pool typically stays about 160°F all year.
