On #ThisDayInHistory in 1987, #ThomasSankara, revolutionary leader of #BurkinaFaso, was murdered in a #coup by Blaise Compaore, whose rule was deemed more acceptable by the capitalist/imperialist powers. He was finally convicted in 2022 for killing the Marxist leader and gaoled.

Il y a 38 ans jour pour jour, Thomas Sankara, président révolutionnaire du Burkina Faso, était assassiné lors d’un coup d’État appuyé par des forces néocoloniales. Figure emblématique des luttes anticoloniales, il portait une vision audacieuse d’une Afrique souveraine, libérée des chaînes de l’impérialisme. Il défendait une économie d’autosuffisance, la justice sociale, la régénération écologique comme piliers d’une révolution authentique. Sankara n’était pas seulement un chef d’État, il était une boussole pour les peuples en quête de dignité. Ci-dessous, un extrait de son discours à l’ONU : La liberté se conquiert, New York – 4 octobre 1984 « C’est pourquoi, camarade Président, vous et moi, aux côtés de nos peuples, avons choisi de condamner le colonialisme, le néocolonialisme, l’apartheid, le racisme, le sionisme et toutes les formes d’agression, d’occupation, de domination et d’ingérence étrangère d’où qu’elles viennent. Nous condamnons et luttons contre l’apartheid en Afrique du sud tout comme le sionisme en Palestine ; nous protestons contre l’agression au Nicaragua tout comme celle perpétrée contre la Libye et la Ligne de front ; nous dénonçons l’invasion de la Grenade tout comme l’occupation de la Namibie. Nous ne cesserons de le faire tant que justice ne sera pas rendue à ces peuples. »
