As the eye moves up through the frame, it follows the reflections of long thin clouds to the reflection of Mount Hood and with a semicircular appearing cloud formation just off to camera left of the peak. There is a sunset stained pink cloud to camera left of Mount Hood that parallels the the summit's slope. Above that are several plan contrails zooming upwards on divergent diagonal paths, and then camera right of the stratovolcano's peak are thin, streaks of clouds heading diagonally up from the mountain and out of frame. Along the lower flank of the peak, at camera right, just above the trees, s a pinkish-purple cloud bank. All of this, and the forest along the lakeshore, are reflected in the waters of Trillium Lake in the foreground. The stillness of the water is broken by the wake of a lone Mallard Hen paddling diagonally upwards from left to right across the frame, disrupting the reflection of the leftmost contrail and the big cloud bank. The duck is silhouetted agains the water, and s just about to cross the reflection of the upper most contrail just to the right and a bit below the reflection of the peak of Mount Hood.

Mount Hood reflected in not-quite-still, misty waters of Trillium Lake shortly after a sunrise that never produced much color. Vertical image, black-and-white-photograph: The bottom third of the image is Trillium lake, whose slightly wind-stirred waters reflect, from bottom, the mostly clouded sky, Mount Hood, and the forest along its shores. Mist drifts along the surface of the lake, and is most visible in the darker reflections of the forest and mountain. The trees of the surrounding evergreen forest line the lake shore, dark and mysterious. Beyond that, the forest rises on the flanks of Mount Hood in two belts before ending in the bare rock and snowy peaks as the stratovolcano rears up above the surround mountains and the tree line. Above Mount Hood, the clouds swirl dramatically, with a long diagonal crack of light that takes the eye from the upper right of the image to just to the left of of peak of Mount Hood.
