West Berlin. Members of my foreign exchange group resting on a fence while we wait our turn to use the scaffolding to look over the Berlin Wall. The visible part of the wall is covered in colorful graffiti. The overlook scaffolding appears on the right side with some other people visible at the top.
A look at the no man's land between East and West Germany from atop scaffolding on the western side. The visible part of the western wall along the bottom of the photo shows more of the detailed, colorful graffiti designs. The no man's land visible above that is several hundred yards. Mostly low grass and gravel with some paved strips for East German military vehicles. The interior of the east side of the wall is painted bright white. Above and beyond the eastern wall, buildings from the East Berlin skyline are visible.
A view from the west of the no man's land between East Berlin and West Berlin with buildings on the east side visible above the far wall. The visible interior wall on the east side is painted bright white. The foreground is barren, low grass, gravel, and some splotches of pavement. Taken in the mid-1980s before the Wall came down.
‼️Just learned from @kmbzradio.bsky.social that #UnionStationKC will host a Berlin Wall exhibit in May/June. I got to see it (both sides) in 1985 on foreign exchange. Definitely road tripping for this! Hoping the KMBZ admin shares these pics with the host who just learned to pronounce foliage. 😀
