It was a genuine honor to help organize #USIH2024 this year. The @susih.bsky.social crowd is awesome. So many great papers and stimulating conversations. But by far the best part was working with @econroykrutz.bsky.social and @sarageorgini.bsky.social, the best colleagues one can ask for.
#usih2024
Thank you for these kind words, Rebecca. It was mighty fun to talk imaginary spaces at #USIH2024.
Thanks, Ben! I am so honored that I got to participate! And yes, that’s me with the green mask. Nothing like losing your voice right before a conference. #USIH2024
easily one of the best plenaries in recent memory.
“every social theory has spaciality… part of post-colonialism is critiquing who broadcasts and who receives…
can I talk about fire?” -Immerwahr
#USIH2024
One of the best parts of putting together a conference like #USIH2024 is inviting really smart people to say smart things at the plenaries. So @econroykrutz.bsky.social and I were grateful when Marlene Daut, Daniel Immerwahr, and @jlepler.bsky.social agreed to speak on “Imagined Spaces” in history.
Now in a #USIH2024 panel that I’ve been really looking forward to: a discussion on Matt Sutton’s recent and provocative article on the term “evangelical.” The work is provocative in the best sense, and I love the responses we’ve seen thus far.
I used to be quite the conference live tweeter. I dare say, for better or worse, those days are behind me. Nevertheless, I am off to #USIH2024 and I do have my phone and this app, so who knows what could happen!
Please continue to use the #USIH2024 hashtag as we enjoy this year's conference!
A really fascinating #USIH2024 panel discussion on history-themed podcasts—best methods, tips, and where to go from here.
Thankful for thoughts from @katejewell.bsky.social, @nataliapetrzela.bsky.social, Kellie Carter Jackson, Kevin McCarthy, and Dylan Gottlieb.
The best book panels are those that ask and answer difficult yet provocative questions concerning the field. They also reflect the brilliance of the book under discussion.
@profmsinha.bsky.social’s magisterial book prompted both. #usih2024

Me, Heath Carter, Lloyd Barba, Gale Kennedy, and Heather Curtis
Sunrise in Boston
Kicked off #USIH2024 last night with a plenary panel on “religious lives,” in which the genius scholars Heath Carter, Lloyd Barba, @galekenny.bsky.social, and @heatherdcurtis.bsky.social spoke about their current biographical projects. And now the sun is rising on the first full day of panels!
The very cool cover of Max Felker-Kantor’s book “Dare to Say No: Policing and the War on Drifs in Schools.” The cover looks like a school locker, with Max’s name on a peel-and-stick name tag
Remember DARE? Yes, it was about turning us into baby-narcs, but it was also a big police PR campaign. @mfkantor.bsky.social has written an amazing book on the program, which we’re discussing today at #USIH2024! bookshop.org/p/books/dare...
Hello, Boston! Really excited for #USIH2024.
On Saturday, I will be discussing my research on 1820s inter-oceanic canal dreams at an exciting plenary #usih2024 panel with @sarageorgini.bsky.social, @econroykrutz.bsky.social, Marlene Daut, & Daniel Immerwahr. Bonus: some of my grad and undergrad students will be there! Teaching+Scholarship ftw.
The cover of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel The Sympathizer, which I have a lot of half-formed thoughts about!
